Optimistic Plans [Hungary]

Today, the Austrian wanted to discuss the new empire with his closest confidante, Hungary. He wanted to make sure that their united lands would reflect their common interests, so he needed her input on how to structure it. To make their meeting more amiable he brought a bouquet of golden autumn flowers for the lady, and he had his violin with him just in case they needed inspiration. Furthermore he was carrying a folder of papers with several plans he had designed to present some ideas. With pleasant thoughts in mind he sauntered over to their home and unlocked the door, balancing his items under one arm.

“Elizabeta, are you home? I would like to discuss something with you.”

The aristocrat wandered into the living room to set down his papers and violin, yet he kept the flowers in his hands so that he could present his gift to the Hungarian girl when she entered. He hoped she would enjoy helping him, for he certainly looked forward to it. His ideas included more academies for music and more precise quality tests for food. Moreover the new hierarchy of the empire needed to be discussed, as times had changed since the last era of emperors.

He settled down in an armchair and waited, his legs minutely swaying back and forth in barely concealed excitement. This had all happened so suddenly that Austria hadn’t even settled on a name for the budding new empire yet. First he had merged with Hungary, and perhaps with a little bit of luck he would soon regain the northern part of Italy. The curl on his head representing Mariazell firmly looped, displaying both his focus and his inherent joy at the recent developments. So far it even seemed like all this could happen without any military intervention. What a dream come true that would be.

The biggest threat to this dream would be the rejection of North Italy. If that happened, he could easily imagine Germany to claim the Italian instead. Then it would be all over in an instant. Austria wouldn’t fool himself into believing he could maintain his status while caught within the pliers of German territory. It was his intention on also discussing with Hungary what they would do if that happened. They needed an emergency plan should they be compromised by their neighbors before having gained enough lands to defend their borders. In the first instance, however, he wanted to discuss more optimistic plans of the future.

[Republic of Hungary]

Hungary heard the sound of someone unlocking the door from the other room. She had heard about how the world seemed to be heading down the toilet. She quickly grabbed a frying pan and fixed her posture. The water from the sink was running as she did the dishes, her hands soapy and a small pile of pans rested on top of a towel. But then she heard a familiar voice and placed that frying pan down. "Roderich?"

[/color] Hungary called as she wiped the suds off her hands and onto an old rag. "I believe I am home~"[/color] she said happily as she walked in. "It's nice to see you again,"[/color]

Hungary saw the flowers. She smiled at him. "Are those for me?"[/color] she asked. They looked simply beautiful. Austria was quite a gentlemen and a good friend to Hungary. He must be here to discuss something important. She had a good idea of what he wanted to talk about but she wasn't one hundred percent certain. "Well, make yourself at home,"[/color] she said. "Would you like anything to drink? Tea perhaps? Then we can sit down together and talk."[/color]

That sounded relaxing and nice. Hungary always enjoyed just talking with someone. It was a quiet day too, a perfect day to just relax and not work too hard. Plus she was a little tired, so maybe some hard work wouldn't be the greatest idea. When someone was tired there was a tendency for things to come out a little less then great. So, she found it the perfect time to just spend the day with her good friend.

When the Hungarian’s voice reached his ears he relaxed. It would have been a pity had she not been home. His features lightened instantly as the young woman entered the room and he stood up to offer the flowers.

“It is nice to see you again too. Ja, these are for you. I hope you like them, for I thought these would match you charmingly.”

As he handed her the bouquet, Austria kept one of the smaller flowers in his hand. He then very carefully brushed her warm brown hair aside to pin the blossom behind her flowing locks and smiled. The Hungarian always managed to look elegant and graceful, and the temptation to decorate her with the dainty plant had been too great.

“Vielen Dank. I would like a cup of coffee, if you would be so kind. With milk and sugar.”

The musician took a seat again in the armchair and glanced over at the other nation. He noticed she appeared just a little bit tired and hoped their discussion would not further tire her out. The last thing he wanted was to cause her a headache or something similar. One leg was crossed over the other and he folded his arms, taking on a more business-like tone.

“I have come to discuss our future. We will need to decide on how to build our empire. How should we expand? What should we promote? Where do we invest? We will need to be swift, otherwise we will fall behind or even be swallowed up by another empire. Personally, I suggest we try to obtain Italy. With his help, we should be powerful enough not to fear dissolution. I am hesitant to expand overseas, for I have little experience in that field and I fear any assistance would arrive too late if we are attacked directly. What do you say?”

Austria held his breath and paused after having held such a monologue. He was very interested in Hungary’s opinion and wanted her to have the opportunity to speak as well.
