likes;;
- orderliness;; a typical trait of many countries with Germanic roots, Luxembourg is no exception. He's frugal and likes things where they're meant to be, although he just grits his teeth quietly when they're not.
- alcohol;; it's no secret his country consumes more alcohol per capita than any other in Europe, and he's not innocent when it comes to the consumption of it. He has an appropriately high tolerance of it, although he respects there's a time and a place for such things.
- languages;; he's fluent in Luxembourgish, French, German, Dutch, and English, as well as knowing bits of Portuguese and Flemish. His citizens are often brought up trilingual. He's often been emphasized the importance of communication, and if nothing else, he's good as a glorified translator.
dislike;;
- flaunted aggression; he believes when others flaunt their power that it's just a mostly psychological response because they're secretly weak. When he was younger he had to deal with many strong nations, and this is how he deals.
- irresponsibility; above all, he thinks people should always be able to account for their money.
- being overshadowed; he can never quite put his finger on why his siblings are so much better known than he is, when his country usually bests them in studies about living standards and the economy.
strengths;;
- economic strength » even moreso than Switzerland, his land is full of millions of people's hidden monetary possessions.
- very apt at different languages » picks them up easily and knows quite a few.
- gets along easily with others » has an aversion to aggression. He's especially welcoming to people he's never met before, something that helps account for his high immigrant population.
weakness;;
- non-aggressive » follows along the orders of others. historically he's been prone to allow foreign rule due to the earliness of his royal lineage dying out. Except of course if that rule is Dutch, even if the Dutch lineage has more claim to the throne than anything.
- neutrality » ...however, just because he works for someone doesn't imply on his end that there will be any true passion behind it. It's business.
- little power » small and underpowered. He doesn't have very much to offer in terms of military or firepower.
- location » landlocked between Belgium and the empires of France and Germany. While it's a weakness to him, it's a good strategic point for whoever rules over him.
overall personality;; While he may be a quiet and studious man, he's not very off-putting or unapproachable. He's intelligent and quiet, but does have social interests and enjoys friendly conversation and harmless debating. He rarely objects and just follows orders, making him a decent worker. While he does have a great deal of patience, when he's been upset he'll sulk for days as well as probably subject the person who upset him to a verbal lashing. He employs a healthy sibling rivalry with Belgium and the Netherlands, and is the youngest of BeNeLux. While he gets along a bit better with Belgium due to both having revolted with her before and having another shared language with her, he's in truth jealous of both of them on a deep level.
He harbors grudges with people (there's still things he's upset at France about even), but he's friendly to meeting new people (even if he is a bit emotionally reserved). This has often had him form odd friendships with unlikely nations, and he's very proud in how his country has done. When given two options, he'll usually find a third, such as when he was told by Germany to no longer use French anymore during ww2 (he switched to Luxembourgish, which is mostly rooted in French anyways rather than picking up German entirely).
Luxembourg likes drinking, but he likes to do it as a form of relaxation rather than socializing so he's not particularly loud or noticeable when he drinks. This usually ends with him in the corner of a pub with everyone else passed out from their alcohol intake while he quietly sips another beer. He is Roman Catholic like most of his citizens, although not overly devout. He does have views that most would consider old fashioned though, but he's always open to learning about others.

- 963 – the land is acquired by Siegfried of Luxembourg, and he builds a castle which around it starts forming the city of Luxembourg
- 963-1354 – is an independent county of the Holy Roman Empire, until it is declared a duchy in 1354
- 1437 – the male line of the royal family of Luxembourg expires, but since they controlled the royal family of Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic) the lineage continues through their princess Elizabeth of Gorlitz
- 1443 – lands inherited by Phillip III, duke of Burgundy
- 1450 – the Habsburg prince, unhappy with Phillip III, seizes the land.
- 1467 – the queen of Poland who holds Luxembourg at the time is captured by Phillip III of Burgundy, thus allowing Luxembourg to become one of the 17 provinces of the Netherlands.
- 1477 – Habsburg rule once more.
- 1684 – invaded by France, although France is forced to give them up again in the war that followed the siege.
- 1715 – incorporated into the Austrian Netherlands
- 1792 – conquered and annexed by revolutionary France, and a short rebellion in 1798 ends with continued French rule.
- 1815 – granted autonomy by the congress of Vienna after the defeat of Napoleon. Placed under Dutch rule because of ties to the extinct Luxembourgian royal dynasty, Prussia occupies it because of military value to them.
- 1830 – joins the Belgian revolt against Dutch rule, but the Belgians claim Luxembourg as their own instead. Part of Luxembourg is permanently ceded to Belgium.
- 1867 – France and Prussia argue over the status of Luxembourg, although it's now independent. Current ruler of the Netherlands still has claim through the lines of the dynasty, and England mediates between the Netherlands and France after Prussia backs out and gives rule back over to the Dutch. By the end of the year however, Luxembourg is declared independent once more and Prussian forces are withdrawn, Dutch rule is revoked and Luxembourg is proclaimed neutral.
- first world war – the government remained neutral under a German controlled state.
- second world war – proclaims neutrality again but is invaded by Germans and used as their own. Luxembourgers are declared German citizens and French is outlawed, which leads to Luxembourgish becoming the main language once more.
- 1949 – one of the founding members of NATO
- 1955 – forms Benelux with siblings.
- 1957 – founding member of the European Union
- 1999 – one of the first countries to adopt the euro
